The Cinema Festival: A New Rendezvous for Movie Lovers in Morocco
From September 7 to 10, the Cinema Festival is set to take over screens in cities and cinemas across Morocco, offering the public a unique opportunity to celebrate the art of film in all its forms. This significant event, initiated by the Moroccan Cinematographic Center and the Moroccan Chamber of Cinemas, and organized by the Nelio Agency, will mark its first edition by offering a single ticket price of 30 DH per screening in various theaters nationwide, making cinema more accessible to everyone.
Over these four days, cinema will be celebrated in 20 theaters and multiplexes across 7 cities in the Kingdom. More than 50 carefully selected films will transport audiences on a rich cinematic journey. As a special treat, the highly anticipated film Triple A by Moroccan director Jihane El Bahhar will premiere, giving moviegoers a unique chance to experience this exclusive title before its official release.
The 2024 Cinema Festival will also feature a series of exclusive meetings where the public can delve into the world of cinema by engaging with directors, actors, and industry experts.
This event is designed for a diverse audience, ranging from students and young cinema enthusiasts to families, industry professionals, and passionate film lovers. Everyone will have the opportunity to explore and appreciate cinema in all its facets, in an atmosphere that is both festive and accessible. Through this initiative, Morocco reaffirms its commitment to promoting and valuing cinema, while making it more inclusive and accessible to all.
Supported by theater operators and driven by partner cinemas, this initiative aims to unite all industry stakeholders—from institutions to distributors—in a collective effort to promote and disseminate cinematic culture. The Cinema Festival aspires to be a space for discovery, sharing, and exchange around the passion for cinema, offering Moroccan audiences a unique and memorable cinematic experience.
This edition aims to strengthen the role of cinema in Moroccan culture, making the art of film more accessible and creating moments of connection and dialogue between different generations of viewers. The Cinema Festival is a true invitation to celebrate the love of cinema together while actively contributing to the cultural growth of the Kingdom.
About the Moroccan Cinematographic Center:
Founded in 1944, the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) plays a crucial role in Morocco’s cinematic landscape. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the CCM’s main mission is to regulate and support the film industry in Morocco. This includes regulating and controlling the cinematic sectors (production, distribution, exhibition), supporting film production, promoting Moroccan cinema and Morocco as a filming destination, and archiving the country’s cinematic heritage.
The CCM also provides services such as post-production, managing the national film archive, organizing major festivals (the National Film Festival, the Tangier Mediterranean Short Film Festival, and the National Documentary Film Festival on Sahrawi Hassani Culture, History, and Space), and fostering international cooperation in cinema.
Additionally, the CCM issues filming permits, professional cards, film exploitation visas, and licenses for producers, distributors (cinema, television, video), cinema operators, and video clubs. The CCM also liaises with civil and military authorities to facilitate additional assistance or authorization requests made by producers.
About the Moroccan Chamber of Cinemas:
The Moroccan Chamber of Cinemas, as a professional association, brings together cinema operators, providing them with a platform to defend their common interests. It acts as the voice of cinema operators with government institutions and other stakeholders. The Chamber contributes to promoting cinema and encouraging cinema attendance by highlighting sector initiatives and projects.
