Earth Night: Marrakech’s Musical Call to Environmental Action
Marrakech, a city renowned for its rich cultural tapestry, hosted a unique event that blended electronic beats with a strong message of environmental consciousness. Earth Night, a global network of DJs for Climate Action, made its debut in Marrakech on April 23, 2024, at the Les Etoiles de Jemaâ El Fna cultural center.
Organized by SoundSisters Morocco in collaboration with DJs for Climate Action and Harvest Festival, Earth Night aimed to raise awareness of environmental issues through the lens of music and nightlife culture. The event in Marrakech was just one of over 30 happening around the world, promising attendees an evening of both entertainment and education.
Local experts and activists led discussions on urgent environmental matters, including Morocco’s water crisis. Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to explore a Solidarity Market, showcasing handmade products and traditional artifacts from women-owned enterprises
The musical highlight of Earth Night was a DJ performance by SoundSisters, a collective dedicated to reducing the gender gap in the electronic music industry. As the DJs took the stage, attendees were treated to a blend of traditional Moroccan melodies and contemporary beats.
Earth Night in Marrakech transcended being merely a concert; it served as a call to action. The event aimed to inspire positive change and promote sustainability within the local community and beyond, uniting music enthusiasts and environmental advocates.
As Marrakech celebrated Earth Night, the event conveyed a powerful message: through creativity and collaboration, we can work towards a brighter, greener future for our planet.
