“Feux” offers a profound meditation on one of the most powerful and mysterious elements of our universe: fire. By exploring the multiple facets of this primordial element, Yacout Hamdouch invites us to delve into a world where the incandescent flame illuminates our imagination and nourishes our reflection.
The very title of the exhibition, “Feux,” evokes the enigmatic nature of this element that humanity has never fully mastered. Since its discovery, fire has played an essential role in human history, symbolizing wealth, fertility, and renewal. Each fire is unique in its flamboyance, colors, and vivacity, offering a palette of shades to explore. And it is through acrylic on canvas and wood that artist Yacout Hamdouch has chosen to express herself.
Born in 1994 in Casablanca, Yacout Hamdouch is convinced that knowledge is an incessant quest, guided by her thirst for discovery. She learned at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, alongside her mentor, the Italian artist Nicola Salvatore, enriching her knowledge and refining her skills. But travels, exhibitions, and experiences from her childhood in Morocco and around the world undoubtedly leave their mark on Yacout’s work.
She seeks to preserve these precious memories through works created in a variety of materials: from acrylic to wood to glass. Each creation is a poetic attempt to capture the ephemeral, the fleeting essence of moments past.
Through her art, Yacout Hamdouch explores the complex nature of memory and perception. She challenges the notions of fidelity and objectivity in representing the past, always seeking to express the most authentic sincerity of her memories, whether bright or dark, joyful or melancholic. Her subtle and introspective artistic approach invites the viewer to reflect on their own relationship with time and memory, making Yacout Hamdouch a singular voice in the contemporary artistic landscape.
From Christian Jaccard to Alberto Burri, to Gerhard Richter, fire has never ceased to fascinate, captivate, and intrigue artists. Through her works, Yacout Hamdouch explores the multiple dimensions of fire, from its destructive power to its creative force. Inspired by the mythology of the phoenix, which rises from its ashes, the artist transports us into a visual journey where fire becomes the guiding thread of a poetic and hypnotic narration.
