Interview : Ouenza: Bridging the Gap through Music

The ninth annual Moca Festival (Movement of Creative Africas) took place in Rabat, Morocco, from May 18th to the 21st. Since 2016, this conference has served as a stage for CCIs from Africa and the diaspora, with the goal of encouraging cultural innovation and entrepreneurship. It was a hub where creatives, business owners, and CCIs decision-makers could meet and exchange ideas. This festival, held over the course of four days, brought together people from all around Morocco, Africa, and the world who are working to advance CCIs; the subject this year was “Towards Sustainable Made in Africa.” This year’s version brought together 46 different nations from across Africa, the Americas, and Europe to explore the effect of culture on ecosystems, with specific attention paid to the role digital technology plays in increasing global warming’s greenhouse gas emissions.

In the middle of all the action at the Moca Festival, we were able to sit down with the intriguing rapper Ouenza for an interview. Ouenza’s presence at the festival provided dimension to the existing conversations regarding cultural sustainability, as he is known for introspective lyricism and a rare mix of musical styles.
