Thomas Vinterberg to Lead the Jury at the 21st Marrakech International Film Festival
Renowned Danish filmmaker and Oscar winner, Thomas Vinterberg, has been announced as the president of the jury for the 21st edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, scheduled to take place from November 29 to December 7, 2024. This prestigious event will see Vinterberg and his jury award the Étoile d’Or to one of the 14 competing international films from up-and-coming filmmakers.
Vinterberg, celebrated for his cinematic craftsmanship, rose to prominence with his 1998 film Festen, which won the Jury Prize at Cannes when he was just 28 years old. Known for his bold storytelling and exploration of the human condition, Vinterberg has continued to captivate audiences globally. His work spans genres and languages, including the Oscar-winning Drunk (2020), which also garnered numerous accolades, such as the BAFTA, César, and European Film Awards.
Reflecting on his role as jury president, Vinterberg expressed, “Presiding over the Marrakech International Film Festival is a privilege and an honor. In a world increasingly divided, festivals like Marrakech provide a vital platform for diverse cultures to engage. Through cinema, we can understand the inexplicable and the unacceptable.”
The Marrakech International Film Festival continues to be a beacon for discovering new cinematic voices, and with Vinterberg at the helm, the 2024 edition promises to offer thought-provoking films that challenge and inspire.
